What do we want to communicate through this website?

Through this website platform, we are aiming to accomplish the following:

  1. To inform website visitors about resources and tools, which are applied in the field by business advisors on value chain development;

  2. To publish about topics and issues about value chain development which are actual and relevant at the moment;

  3. To provide a possibility for ICCO representatives to join the discussion group on chaincapacity development & value chain development

  4. To identify resource persons on value chain development, who can provide added value to the discussion group.

[Simon Koolwijk tells about the online exchange group of ICCO businnes advisors on value chain development. Through the use of Dgroups, skype and other electronic tools, this group exchanges experiences, learning questions and knowledge on its own role and partners' role in the development of value chains.]

History

The Chaincapacity Exchange Group of ICCO Business advisors was formed during an E-Coference from October – December 2007 on Value Chain Development. Experiences where shared on case studies in Ethiopia, Honduras, Philippines, Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Goals of the group

  1. To Exchange experiences about ICCO’s role (incl. methods and approaches) and the actors roles in building trust, capacities and linking actors (producers & sellers) in and around (support agents) the Value Chain;

  2. To identify advantages and disadvantages of these roles;

  3. To share interesting literature, websites and case studies, which will be made later on accessible at this website.

Regarding objective 1, our intention is to deepen insights on:

  • the role of the ICCO advisor - the role of the Partner Organisation (s)

  • the role of the target group

  • the role of the other business development services

What will I get out of joining this group as an ICCO representative?

You will have the opportunity to listen and learn from other business advisors, some experts in the field but most important of all, you can raise your own questions. Should I play a role inside or outside the chain? How do work with the chain actors? How to involve the Business Development Service providers? How to stimulate short and mid term results in a value chain? We will use online discussions using an e-mail based platform optimized for low-bandwidth (www.Dgroups.org) as well as skype teleconferences. The program should not interrupt your ongoing work too much as you can participate whenever you have time (apart from the teleconferences which have a fixed time). Though it would be great if you could plan to invest some time to participate.

Sofar 7 Business advisors, 4 staff members from the ICCO head office, 1 moderator, 1 expert and 1 community of practise advisor are participating in the Chaincapacity Discussiongroup of ICCO advisors. Following the photo's of the people participating in this discussion group.
